“What part of me is hungry?”

I tailspin and although trained, I am not ready for even mu own reaction. Sure. I know how to act and what to do when I enter Dr.C’s office. I know I all about how therapists ask the dumbest questions, then sit back and watch my reaction. I know because I have been out and more ofter in therapy for most of my life; but now a am more volatile.

She waited, watched and when I could focus on her question without ripping nails out of my visually imaged board, Dr. Felicia Conners, a sexy gray-haired woman encouraged me to answer; prompting the reply could save my life. What life, I silently wondered? Eight years ago,I thought if I lost weight my wlife would change, like on television and I would fit in sexy clothing, my family and society as well. How wrong.

ABOUT SHIRLEY

Where my books come from

The idea for COMING OUT LOUD, Erotic Lesbian Flash-Fiction came when I was doing a book reading on my book, The Women of Nelson at Charis Books in Atlanta Georgia where I lived at the time. I noticed a group of black women who were not as engaged in the discussion.  Shortly thereafter I learned they were a group of lesbian women struggling with words and meaning on the printed page.  I promised them I would write a book that they could fully participate in.

“I am a black woman writer with a passion for local history.  As a revisionist historian, I write literature that garners readership attention of feminist themes by non-feminists; an ethnic readership that is challenged their own views; a multicultural readership that truly crosses historically unspoken boundaries, dismantling barriers between cultural facts and myths; and the inclusive merger of local, regional and national histories, seeped in contemporary questions plagued by the crossroads of old and new.”
